MANILA - Comedian Vice Ganda admitted that he was hoping Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte would run for president in the 2016 elections.
In an interview with Push published Thursday, the 39-year-old "It's Showtime" host was asked if he already had a presidential candidate in mind.
"Gusto ko kasi si Duterte. Eh, hindi naman siya tatakbo," Vice Ganda said.
Early this month, the 70-year-old Duterte announced that he has no plans of seeking the presidency and that he will retire from public office next year.
Vice Ganda continued that he has yet to decide on who he will support despite being approached by some politicians asking for his endorsement.
"Hindi ko pa alam, pinag-iisipan ko pa. Kasi 'yung iboboto ko, madali lang naman 'yan, eh, kasi sarili ko lang 'yon. Pero 'yung ie-endorse ko, 'yung mag-iimpluwensiya ng ibang tao, kailangang pag-isipan 'yan," he explained.
He was also asked on whether he would rally behind Liberal Party Mar Roxas because he is friends with Roxas' wife Korina Sanchez.
Last August 4, Vice Ganda was one of the guest performers at the "Keri Beks: The First Gay Congress," which was organized by the "Rated K" host.
"Actually, muntik pa ngang magkaproblema 'yung pagpunta ko sa 'Keri Beks' kasi nu'ng ma-resched, parang two days ata after mag-announce si Mar, sabi ko, baka magkakulay pulitika," he shared.
"Pero nu'ng sinabi nila na this is not about Mar, baklaan lang ito, of course, dapat nando’n ako, I will be there for the bekis," he added.
