MANILA - The official trailer for Lav Diaz's Golden Lion-winning film "Ang Babaeng Humayo" was released Wednesday evening, providing Filipinos their first clear glimpse into the 228-minute long revenge drama that has captivated critics abroad.
Produced by Cinema One Originals and Sine Olivia, "Ang Babaeng Humayo" tells the story of a school teacher named Horacia, (Charo Santos), who spent 30 years in a correctional facility for a crime she did not commit.
Released after someone else confessed to the crime, Horacia soon finds out that her husband has long passed away, her daughter has moved out, her son has gone missing and is presumed dead, and that a former lover set her up to be jailed.
The film beat 19 other entries, including those with Hollywood stars such as Emma Stone and Natalie Portman, for the Golden Lion, the top prize of the prestigious 2016 Venice Film Festival.
It will premiere in theaters nationwide starting September 28.
