MANILA, Philippines – A day before the second season premiere of “Glee” in the United States, fans and supporters of international singing sensation Charice are eagerly waiting for her debut in the hit American television show.
The 18-year-old singer will play a Filipino exchange student named Sunshine Corazon, who will become the rival of lead character Rachel Berry portrayed by actress Lea Michele.
Aside from the praises Charice is receiving from her "Glee" co-stars and director, she also gained media’s positive attention. Charice was featured several times by various television, radio stations, newspapers and magazines in the US.
Recently, in the American newspaper USA Today, Charice was described as “the little girl with the big voice.”
Charice shared with USA Today her early life struggles. She recalled how her father pointed a gun at her mother and how their neighbor tried to help them when she was only 3 years old.
Since then, a lot has already changed in the life of the singer-actress, who is currently nominated as the “Teen Icon of Tomorrow” in teen magazine J-14. Other nominees include the youngest brother of the Jonas Brothers, Frankie Jonas, and Disney star Bella Thorne.
Despite the spotlight Charice is now enjoying, it seems that her heart remains simple.
She said she already misses the Philippines, particularly spending time with her close friends and eating Filipino dishes such as adobo and sinigang.
The second season of “Glee” will air on September 21 (US time).
