MANILA - A former housemate of the reality television show "Pinoy Big Brother" (PBB) is bringing her cause to the upcoming Miss World Philippines beauty pageant.

In an interview at the launch event held at the Solaire Resort and Casino on Wednesday, Valerie Weigmann said that the competition is the perfect venue to raise awareness for the needs of the Aeta community based in Tarlac.

"Dahil sa experience at siyempre dahil sa platform. Kasi nagustuhan ko 'yung Miss World because it's all about beauty and giving," she said, while also mentioning her cause dubbed "MusiKaramay."

"So since may advocacy na din kasi ako, nakita ko 'yung opportunity to raise awareness of my indigenous brothers and sisters," the Filipino-German added.

In 2008, Weigmann joined the teen edition of "PBB", which actor Ejay Falcon won. After her stint in the show, she went on to star in TV commercials, co-host noontime shows and appear on magazines.

Asked if she learned any lessons from the reality show that proved useful in a beauty pageant, she said: "Just to be yourself because I've experienced it already that sometimes you shouldn't overthink. Basta pag ikaw 'yun, pakita mo lang."

Last year, actress Megan Young won the Miss World pageant, a first for the Philippines.

The winner of Miss World Philippines will be announced on October 12, 2014 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
