Derek nears settlement with estranged wife 1

MANILA -- Derek Ramsay and estranged wife Mary Christine Jolly are close to reaching a settlement regarding their 11-year-old son.

On Thursday, both parties met behind closed doors after the scheduled hearing for the complaint lodged against Ramsay in connection with Republic Act No. 9262, otherwise known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, was suspended.

In the complaint, Jolly was reportedly seeking P42 million in damages from the actor.

The Thursday meeting, which lasted for an estimated two hours and was attended by their son, yielded a decision from both camps to draft an agreement, which will include articles on child support, visitation rights, and the citizenship of their son.

A move to annul the marriage between the two will also be included.

According to an emotional Ramsay shortly after the meeting, hurtful things were thrown by the opposing camp, but "I'm happy I got to see my son."

"Tinabi ko 'yung career ko pagpasok ko for my son. Wala akong pakialam sa sarili ko. Anak ko ang inuna ko dito," he said.

For her part, Jolly said: "I think we just let out a lot of baggage in the past that needed to be let out before we want to move on and I'm glad that's resolved."

Last month, the actor issued a statement confirming that the boy introduced to her by Jolly in August 2011 is indeed his son.

Explaining why he did not reveal that he has a son at the time, Ramsay said: "I wanted to know my son first and keep my relationship with him private. [He] was just an 8-year-old boy then and he would not be able to comprehend the possible media curiosity about him, especially since he was then new to the country and about to pursue his education here."

"Given the circumstances between Mary and I, which is far from ideal, I had to protect [my son] first," added Ramsay, who joined showbiz as early as 2005.

Ramsay also confirmed the marriage with Jolly in his counter-affidavit. The two were married in 2002 in Balagtas, Bulacan.
