MANILA – Star Cinema’s “Darna” movie is not yet out, but its lead star is already making a mark.
Jane de Leon was given the Belo Beauty Special Award at the ABS-CBN Ball over the weekend.
But instead of accepting the prize, she decided to donate the proceeds from her award to the ABS-CBN Ball’s beneficiary – Bantay Bata 163’s Bantay Edukasyon program.
In an interview with Metro.Style after the event, De Leon said she believes that education is crucial in helping children fulfill their dreams.
“I really want to help Bantay Bata especially Bantay Edukasyon para makatulong talaga na matapos ‘yung pag-aaral nila,” she said. “It’s really important kasi mga bata ‘yan eh, nangangarap ‘yan.”
“Hindi natin alam kung nasaan ‘yung mga magulang nila, at kung ano ‘yung mga gusto nilang gawin para sa buhay nila in the future. Mas maganda na maging ehemplo tayo para mas makatulong sa kanila,” she added.
De Leon went on to tell her fellow youth to always take care of themselves and listen to their parents.
“Think about yourself and huwag na huwag niyong pababayaan ‘yung sarili niyo,” said the young actress, who is also a mental health advocate.
“Importante 'yung pag-aaral, always listen to your parents, and don’t forget to pray.”
One of De Leon’s predecessors in “Darna,” Angel Locsin, also made the news after skipping this year’s ABS-CBN Ball.
On Instagram, Locsin explained that she has decided to “donate directly to Bantay Bata the amount I’m supposed to spend in the ball.”
