MANILA – "The Voice Kids" runner-up Darren Espanto dominated the Philippine charts of Apples iTunes store on Thursday with two of his covers, topping songs by international record artists.
Espanto’s rendition of Whitney Houston’s “One Moment In Time” currently ranks first in the “Top Songs” list of iTunes Philippines, beating foreign acts such as Taylor Swift, John Legend, The Script and Adam Levine.
Meanwhile, the 13-year-old singer’s version of Justin Bieber’s “Somebody To Love” is at No. 2. Espanto sang the Bieber hit during the finale of “The Voice Kids.”
In his past interviews, Espanto said it is his dream to make it big in the music industry and he is grateful that a lot of doors have opened for him after “The Voice Kdis.”
Prior to joining the ABS-CBN talent show, Espanto was a finalist of the Canadian reality show "The Next Star." At the time he auditioned, Darren was only 10; he was already 11 when the show concluded in December 2012.
Aside from his six-month stint in "The Next Star," he also joined other singing competitions in Calgary, Canada where his family is based. In 2011, he became the city champion of a contest for young Filipinos in the city, dubbed "Pinoy Singing Sensation."
