A 17-year-old Filipina got all the judges of “The X Factor UK” up on their feet with her audition.
Maria Laroco sang a cover of the Prince classic “Purple Rain,” getting a standing ovation from the judges and the studio audience.
“Since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to be an international superstar,” she said before her performance. “I want to be big. That’s why I’m doing this, because I love to do it and this is my dream.”
Judge Louis Tomlinson referred to Laroco’s performance as “absolutely incredible.”
“To do what you’ve just done vocally at 17, you absolutely blew me away,” he said.
Judge Ayda Field told the Filipina teen that she “just bossed that stage,” while judge Simon Cowell asked if there was ever one moment that she doubted her talent.
To which Laroco replied: “I never gave up on my dream. A lot of times, people tell me I’m not good enough, and I can’t do it.”
This prompted judge Robbie Williams to assure the aspiring singer: “Look what you did to the audience. This doesn’t happen a lot!”
In the end, Laroco got a “yes” from all four judges, making her a step closer to winning “The X Factor UK.”
