Concert recap: Monsta X, Weki Meki return to PH for intimate gig

MANILA — South Korean groups Monsta X and Weki Meki returned to the country for an intimate show before fans, staged Saturday night at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

A zealous crowd of hundreds trooped to the venue for the Cosmic Celebration show, where some fans were given the opportunity to go on stage, and get up close and personal with the artists.

In the middle of Weki Meki’s set, for instance, selected fans participated in a game, where they were fed spaghetti by the blindfolded members of the girl group.

During the game, some audience members even shouted, “Sana all,” a phrase meaning “I hope everyone experiences that,” pertaining to being fed by the artists.

Filipino Ki-Lings (Weki Meki’s fans) witnessed the octet perform its new songs, including “Picky Picky,” “Whatever U Want,” and the bubbly summer song “Tiki-Taka.”

The group’s leader and main vocalist, Suyeon, sang while sitting on a chair throughout the set as she was unable to dance due to a leg injury.

Weki Meki also sang its past singles “Crush” and “La La La,” and the B-side “True Valentine,” which were performed when the group first came to Manila for “Show Champion” last October.

Monbebes, meanwhile, were unable to contain their excitement over seeing Monsta X, which last visited Manila in 2016.

During a question and answer portion with Monsta X, fans asked the group for a solo concert by relentlessly chanting “solo con.”

“We will try our best next year for a solo con,” Wonho replied in Korean.

Monsta X recently concluded its 2019 world tour, which covered Asia, Europe, Oceania and the Americas.

The septet, known for possessing some of the most enviable physiques in K-pop, opened its set with the body roll-inducing pop-rock song “Shoot Out.”

The band also performed “Mohae,” the 2017 hit “Dramarama,” and the electronic dance track “Fallin’.”

Liza Soberano, Enrique Gil, and Maja Salvador were among the local celebrities who attended the concert.

Cosmic Celebration was organized by travel app Klook Philippines as part of the festivities for its second anniversary.

Weki Meki debuted in 2017 under Fantagio while Monsta X debuted in 2015 under Starship Entertainment.
