A heartfelt performance from a “Tawag ng Tanghalan” contestant on Friday had all five judges on their feet — and host Vice Ganda getting “hurt” with the rendition of a song about letting go of a loved one.
Mindanao contender Elain Duran took the stage with “Now That You’re Gone,” and by the end of her performance roused the judges to a standing ovation.
Vice Ganda was less welcoming of Duran, as he jokingly said he hoped she wouldn’t win. “Ang sakit no’n. Umuwi ka na. May mga galing talagang nakakapanakit na. Ina-ano ka namin? Masaya kami kanina bago ka dumating. Matalo ka sana! Charot!” the comedian said.
Duran, who is now among the few “Tawag ng Tanghalan” daily contenders to get a standing ovation, drew praise for her breathing, emotions, technique, vocal quality. She was also compared to R&B singer Kyla, whom she identified as one of her idols.
Proclaimed the daily winner, Duran went on to face defending champion Audrey Malaiba, whom she managed to unseat after she impressed judges again, this time with “Versace on the Floor.”
