Actor Christopher "Boyet" de Leon is all praises for young actors Jericho Rosales and John Lloyd Cruz for their talent, dedication and professionalism. However, de Leon hesitates to name either of the two actors as his heir apparent for the title "King of Philippine Drama"--which has been conferred on the veteran actor by the entertainment press for his compelling and unparalleled work as dramatic actor.

“Magaling itong si Echo. He’s like a wild horse I mean we got to tame him he’s a stallion he wants to gallop, run ang daming energy,” de Leon described Rosales, noting the energy and drive the latter puts into his roles.

De Leon stars with Rosales in the upcoming ABS-CBN TV series “Kahit Isang Saglit", a landmark Filipino-Malaysian production between the Kapamilya Network and Malaysian producer Double Vision.

De Leon, who worked with John Lloyd Cruz in the teleserye “Maging Sino Ka Man" is also impressed with the young actor.

“John Lloyd is hats off--he is such a good actor. He’s a  thinking actor, he’s not flamboyant  but he knows what he has to give sa eksena. Alam niya. His style is simple and that’s good,” said the veteran actor.

The actor explained that Cruz and Rosales have different styles in acting but both know how to make their own styles work.

“Ang sarap, I like working with people like them… iyong passion nila, yung  enthusiasm nila in acting in what they’re acting is very  contagious especially sa katulad ko I’d been in the business for so long and I needed to be rejuvenated,”  de Leon added.

De Leon added that it's unfair to all the good young actors to be tagged as "the next Christopher de Leon".

“That’s not fair for them. I mean they have their own talent, magic, identity. Their careers will not be like mine but one thing I'm proud of is I’ve worked with the best directors in Philippine Cinema -- Eddie Romero, Jerry de Leon the master, Ishmael Bernal, Lino Brocka, Mike de Leon… I don’t know about them,” he explains.

De Leon started in showbiz career at the age of 18 and considered now as one of the best actors in the country.
On ‘Kahit Isang Saglit’

De Leon admitted that he felt a little hesitant about accepting his contravida role for upcoming Asia-novela “Kahit Isang Saglit” with  Rosales and Malaysian star Carmen Soo.

“Well, I’m supposed to be the headache of everyone dito sa telenovela, talagang all out contravida,” he told

He said that he was told that he will be playing the role of a PNP general. He said he agreed to do the role because he likes to play high-ranking law enforcement officials.

“I like playing roles na, you know, men in uniform and all that stuff; being tough--I like that", he said.

The actor said that he is very happy about the treatment given to him by the production management as well as his fellow actors.

“That’s the right way to do it, you don’t pamper your actors but you treat them very well. They are the ons who will deliver the product. They are your product you should treat them well,” de Leon said.
