MANILA – Lea Salonga is hoping Sarah Geronimo could come back "in fighting form" after no one from her team made it to the finals of the second season of “The Voice Kids.”

In an interview with ABS-CBNnews.com after the show on Saturday, Salonga said she felt really sad that Geronimo’s wards didn’t make the finals.

“It’s a very small setback and I’m hoping that she comes back in fighting form for the next season and that a lot of people will pick her. It’s just part of the show,” she said.

Salonga said there will always be that risk given the rules of the competition.

“It could be anyone of us. It could be Bamboo, it could be me. This is one of those things that’s part of the show and it makes the show exciting for everybody watching at home. If it’s exciting for the people at home, then we are doing the right job,” she said.

Nonetheless, Salonga said she is very proud of the remaining four young artists for their stellar performances on Saturday which will determine the competition’s next champion.

Vying for the top title are Reynan Dal-Anay and Esang De Torres from Team Lea, and Elha Mae Nympha and Sassa Dagdag from Team Bamboo.

“Yung performances ng lahat ng top four, talagang ang gagaling. They’re beyond anybody’s expectations. My kids did really, really, really well, pretty much as what we have rehearsed. Talagang pinaghandaan ang mga ginawa nila. I’m so happy and so proud of the two (Esang and Reynan) of them talaga,” she said.

Asked who she thought was a revelation after seeing all the Saturday performances, Salonga said: “I know what my kids are like. For me, I think Reynan, he’s always pretty steady in rehearsals. Minsan he’ll get something wrong or he won’t do something that has been rehearsed. But the thing about him is that once he is on stage, something happens to him. Hindi mo lang matanggal ang gaze mo sa kanya. When he sang ‘Toyang,’ this is the most fun I’ve ever seen him sing this song. That was revealing for me.”

The new winner of “The Voice Kids” will be named on Sunday night.
