In the Alan Moore graphic novel "The Killing Joke", the Batman's arch-villain The Joker is portrayed as an ordinary man whose life unravels in one bad day.
That isn't the direction that director Todd Phillips (The Hangover) is taking in the new Warner Bros. Pictures "Joker", which portrays the origin of the clown prince of crime.
Joaquin Phoenix is Arthur Fleck, a clown-for-hire by day who aspires to be a stand-up comic at night while taking care of his sick mother. Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
Three-time Oscar nominee Phoenix stars in the titular role alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro as Franklin. The film also stars Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, and Marc Maron.
“Joker”, which is distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures, is in Philippine cinemas October 3.
