MANILA—Fans of Regine Velasquez were caught in hot anticipation Wednesday night with the release of photos hinting at her big-screen comeback, 3 years since her last lead role in a film.
Cinema One Originals, an ABS-CBN Films group, shared behind-the-scenes photos of Velasquez on the set of “Yours Truly, Shirley,” one of the entries in the 2019 edition of its film festival.
“It’s a bird, it’s a plane . . . It’s Regine Velasquez-Alcasid!” the caption of the photos read.
“Yours Truly, Shirley” by Nigel Santos was one of the eight film projects awarded with a P3-million production budget for the 15th Cinema One Originals film fest.
Part of its synopsis released in March reads: “A 50-year-old widow believes that the young pop star is the reincarnation of her dead husband. How far would she go to prove herself right?”
Velasquez, whose last movie role was in the indie comedy flick “Mrs. Recto” in 2016, was not known to be involved in the Cinema One Originals project until the photos released on Wednesday.
It was not immediately clear whether Velasquez’s part in “Shirley” will be a starring role, or a minor one, as in the case of Sarah Geronimo’s “Unforgettable.”
