MANILA, Philippines - Aeta boy Arjohn Gilbert landed on the top trending local topics of the microblogging site Twitter on Monday after ABS-CBN's talk show "Gandang Gabi Vice!" featured his amazing talent as a singer.
In the show, Gilbert, dubbed the "Justin Bieber of the Philippines", shared that he discovered his singing prowess while trying to make a living selling fruits, crops and flutes.
"Unang unang kinanta ko po mga 8 or 9 years old po doon ko na-discover 'yung boses ko yung nagtitinda ng flute ng kamote at abokado yung kay Bugoy Drilon yung 'Paano Na Kaya' at mga kanta niya po," Gilbert said.
He then performed songs like Bieber's "Baby," Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are" and Bugoy Drilon's "Paano Na Kaya?"
"Ang galing mo, sobrang nakakatuwa ka. Excited ako na mapanood ka. Nararamdaman ko sisikat ng bongga, magiging recording artist," Vice Ganda said.
Filipino netizens also heaped praise on Gilbert on Twitter.
"Arjohn Gilbert is such a child-wonder ! I just hope na magtuloy-tuloy ang tagumpay niya. I love that boy ! :))," Lawrence Alcoran tweeted.
"im a fan of Arjohn Gilbert. kids like that should be featured n TV more. im so fed up of watching some good-looking, talentless wannabe's," Airra Pingol said.
At the end of the show, Gilbert expressed his gratitude to all the people who helped make his talent even more well known.
"Nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng sa umuporta sa akin. Maraming marami pong salamat sa inyong lahat po. God bless po," the boy added.
The hashtag #Arjohn Gilbert made it to the 6th spot on Twitter's list of top trending topics for the Philippines on Monday morning.
Just last week, Gilbert extended his appreciation to international singing sensation Charice for inviting him to perform in her upcoming Manila concert.
Last Saturday (August 6), Charice invited Gilbert to perform with her onstage after she saw a video of the latter singing Justin Bieber's hits.
She then asked her fans to find Gilbert to let him know that he will be part of the concert.
