MANILA -- It was an emotional night for rocker Bamboo Mañalac as he cut five members of his team, leaving only three young artists to move on to the live semifinals of the third season of "The Voice Kids."

On Sunday, Mañalac expressed pride at how the members of his team improved throughout the competition.

"Yung growth natin from the Blinds to this point, amazing. I'm so proud of all of you. Thank you very much for that," he said before announcing his choice.

Moving on to the next round are John Justin Alva, Xylein Herrera and Wyllian Heart Salvador.

Alva, dubbed "Comeback Kid" for trying out again this season, performed Lukas Graham's "7 Years," earning praise from all coaches, including Lea Salonga and Sharon Cuneta.

"Oh my God! This guy is gonna be deadly. I'm scared of you. I like your attitude on stage, I love your talent. I think you're handsome, I love the way you stand, the way you sing, the way you kind of sing-rap together. I love you," Cuneta told Alva.

Herrera was also a favorite among the coaches and her performance of Ed Sheeran's "Photograph" showed off the unique quality of her voice.

"You know, sa dami nang nag-perform sa lahat ng teams dito sa 'The Voice Kids,' magaling talaga lahat ng nasa teams nina Coach Bamboo at Coach Lea, si Xylein talaga sa akin, may koneksyon sa puso ko. (Ang) galing mo anak," Cuneta told Herrera.

"Yung strength mo, 'yung quality ng voice mo, 'yung sarili mong delivery, it's your own," Mañalac added.

Salvador was a surprise pick for Bamboo since, unlike her two other teammates, she wasn't chosen by the two other coaches to move on to the next round.

She performed "On My Own" from the musical "Les Miserables."

"Nagandahan ako na wala kang ginagayang kahit sino sa pagkanta mo ng kantang 'yan. Very honest, 'yung emotion mo, lumalabas," Salonga told Salvador.

Aside from the three young artists, other contestants who will be competing in next week's live semifinals are Antonetthe Tismo, Alvin Dahan and John Carlo Tan, all from Cuneta's team, and Yessha Dela Calzada, Joshua Oliveros and Ragen Angel Peñaflor, representing Salonga's team.

"The Voice Kids," hosted by Luis Manzano, Robi Domingo, and Kim Chiu, airs Saturdays after "Home Sweetie Home" and on Sundays after "Wansapanataym."
