MANILA — In a moment that drew audible gasps and shrieks from the audience, actress Yassi Pressman slapped Erin Aragoza during the BidaMan finalist’s turn onstage for the drama improvisation challenge of the competition.
Aragoza, who finished in the Top 3 of the leading man search, was tasked to portray a soldier who returns to his wife after years of being assumed dead.
Guest star Pressman, who is no stranger to dramatic confrontations as Coco Martin’s leading lady in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” appeared to channel her character in the top-rating series in helping Aragoza improvise his scene.
Pressman landed a forceful slap on Aragoza’s face in the opening seconds, catching the contestant off-guard and lending more tension to the already drama-filled scenario.
Judges Bobet Vidanes and Nadine Lustre covered their mouths in shock, while the hosts of “It’s Showtime” appeared moved by the tearful exchange, with Anne Curtis squatting as they watched from the side of the stage.
During the live telecast on Saturday, “Eris” and “Yassi” ranked among the top trending topics on Twitter, with many praising Pressman’s acting and generosity to let Aragoza shine in the crucial portion.
Over the weekend, the official uploads of the Aragoza and Pressman’s scene continued to gain traction and have amassed some 5 million views on Facebook and YouTube.
Aragoza, who endeared himself to “It’s Showtime” viewers with his candid and emotional sharing of making ends meet, settled for a runner-up finish to eventual Ultimate BidaMan titlist Jin Macapagal.
