MANILA, Philippines - Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr. is not closing his doors to the possibility of finding a new love.
Binay, who marked the first death anniversary of his wife, Kennely, on Wednesday, quickly added that he is not sure if he’s ready to get romantically involved with anyone right now.
The Makati mayor made the statement amid rumors of his romantic ties with actress-television host Kris Aquino, the youngest sister of President Benigno Aquino III.
“I'm not closing my doors. I am after all still young, you know. Hindi ko naman pwedeng sabihin na wala ng relasyon mangyayari sa akin. So, only time will tell if I get into another relationship,” he said.
Asked about Kris, Binay said they have not not been communicating lately.
In 2009, Kennely passed away after giving birth to their youngest daughter, who is named after her mother. A memorial Mass was held for her. Present during the Mass were the Aquino sisters, except for Kris.
The actress opted to skip it to avoid any controversy.
“I choose not to attend because it’s the proper thing to do. It’s a family occasion, a sad commemoration. Huwag guluhin. I just filed my [annullment] petition. Unless I’m legally free, and I’m not just pertaining to Junjun, we both like to do what is proper and it won’t work if we don’t start on the right footing.”
On Wednesday, the Binays also celebrated the first birthday and baptism of the Makati mayor's youngest daughter. -With a report from Marie Lozano, ABS-CBN News
