MANILA - It was the battle of the strummers on Saturday as Darryl Shy of Baguio and MJ Podolig of Sorsogon gave their own unique twist to the OPM classic "Tuwing Umuulan at Kapiling Ka."
Both singers played guitar during the Voice of the Philippines battle round.
Guest adviser Gerald Salonga could not hide his disappointment after the song. "It wasn't as good as it could have been," he said, noting that some of the singing went awry.
Coach Lea Salonga particularly singled out Podolig for oversinging and putting too many ad libs in the songs.
"It's a thing na may kaunting landi and it became too much," she said.
In the end, she chose Darryl Shy, saying that the latter was able to adjust his performance for the battle round.
