MANILA -- The first-ever four-chair turner on "The Voice of the Philippines," Thor Dulay, secured a spot in the Live Shows of the hit reality talent search after earning his coach's vote in the Battle Rounds aired Saturday.
The Davao del Norte-born singer, who is known as one of the back-up vocalists of comedian Vice Ganda, was paired with Zamboanga City's Sir Lord Lumibao in the second phase of the competition.
They performed the Boyz II Men hit "I'll Make Love to You" in a "sing-off" that earned a standing ovation from their coach Allan "apl.de.ap" Pineda, and lauded as "intense" by coach Sarah Geronimo.
Although Pineda praised Lumibao for "flourishing" and "bringing the thunder" with his performance, The Black Eyed Peas member ultimately picked Dulay to be among the six artists representing him in the Live Shows.
Also advancing among the artists shown in Saturday's episode are Team Lea's Diday Garcellano, who beat Japs Mendoza; Team Sarah's Yuki Ito, who won over Kat Castro; and Team Bamboo's Angelique Alcantara, who survived her three-way battle with Deb Victa and Nicole Parada.
As of the August 3 episode of "The Voice of the Philippines," eight out of the 24 slots in the Live Shows have already been filled.
Other artists who have won their respective Battles are Team Bamboo's Lee Grane, Team Apl's Tristhan Perfecto, Team Lea's Mitoy Yonting, and Team Sarah's Morisette Amon.
