MANILA – Darren Espanto delivered good news to his supporters when he revealed that he will now be staying in the Philippines for good following his stint on "The Voice Kids", where he finished second.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe, Espanto said he will not be going back to Calgary, Alberta in Canada, where their family used to live, to work in showbiz full-time here in his native country. However, his parents will be going back to Canada temporarily for work.
"Hindi na po [ako babalik sa Canada] kasi po marami din pong mga offers pagkatapos ng finals [ng The Voice Kids]. Sabi po ng mga magulang ko, sila na lang po ang uuwi for the meanwhile para makabalik sa trabaho," he said.
Espanto said most of his relatives are here in the Philippines and they will be the ones looking after him while his parents are away.
Although Espanto did not clinch the "The Voice Kids" title, the 13-year-old singer said he is happy because of the overwhelming support he has been receiving on social media.
The hashtags "Darren Don't Leave the Philippines" and "Manalo Matalo Darren Pa Rin Kami" even trended on Twitter until Monday afternoon, with the young singer's fans saying they still consider him the winner.
"I feel great. Mabuti naman po ako. I'm very blessed to have [my supporters]. I thank all the people who supported me and I will forever treasure them. I feel very very happy po kasi kahit hindi po ako yung nanalo, parang nanalo na din po ako," he said.
But aside from the heartwarming messages from his supporters, Espanto also takes pride that several prominent personalities in the entertainment industry were rooting for him during the competition.
The young singer posted screen shots of messages from various celebrities.
While his upcoming projects have yet to be announced, Espanto said he and the rest of the "The Voice Kids" finalists are currently busy gearing up for their upcoming charity concert titled "Boses ng Bulilit… Kami Ulit!"
"I'm very excited po kasi hindi lang po 'yung TV show. Ito po ay parang wala nang competition, parang happy happy lang. We have guest artists. We have 'TVK' alumni, and 'yung mga coach po," he said.
In a separate interview with entertainment site Push, Espanto said he also wants to try acting and would love to do a project with his coach and mentor, Sarah Geronimo.
"Meron po kaming mga shows and mga guestings. Pangarap ko rin pong mag-artista. Marami po [akong gustong makatrabaho] katulad po ni coach Sarah," he said.
