MANILA – Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto is throwing his full support to his wife, veteran actress and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, whose first independent film “Ekstra” is part of this year’s Cinemalaya Film Festival.
A self-confessed fan of his wife, Recto said it is a great joy to see Santos on the big screen anew years after she starred in a movie.
Recto is hoping his wife would make more movies once she retires from politics.
“I wish she makes more movies, maybe one or two a year kung kaya ng katawan niya and schedule niya. Later on when she retires from politics, I’m sure she will be making more movies,” he said.
Asked if he’s willing to do a cameo role in Santos’ future projects, he said: “Sa bahay naman namin, ako na ang extra sa bahay eh. Puro sikat ang nasa bahay namin. Si Vilma, si Lucky. Pantay lang kami sa sikat ni Ryan. Hindi tayo artista.”
But Recto said he will support his wife’s plan to produce a movie someday.
“I look forward to helping her produce a movie, also in the future. I look forward that maybe, in the future, to write or maybe to produce, or maybe help her direct. Maybe later on, who knows?” he said.
Recto said they just have to play things by ear since Santos is already is her last term as governor.
“It will happen. Maybe sooner than later [she will retire from politics]. It’s her last term as governor. Depende kung ano ang mangyayari. Hindi niya iniisip [ang higher office], hindi niya pinaplano. Hindi namin pinag-uusapan,” he said.
In a previous interview, Santos said she is not yet thinking about running for higher office in the 2016 elections.
"Three years pa akong magta-trabaho as governor. I am not even dreaming to become the vice president," Santos-Recto said in an interview on ANC's "Headstart" hosted by Karen Davila.
"Ang third term ko mag-uumpisa pa lang sa July 1st, at bago ko isipin 'yan ay iisipin ko muna kung paano ako ga-graduate nang maganda, itong last term ko sa Batangas," she said, adding that her target is to make Batangas one of the top three provinces, "if not number one."
