MANILA — Angelica Panganiban did not back down from sensitive questions in a truth-or-dare game with her close friend and confidant, fashion stylist Patty Yap, with topics touching on the actress’ past relationships.
The outspoken Panganiban was the guest interviewee of Yap in her YouTube vlog, where the two exchanged dares or questions with a spinning bottle determining who would take a shot of alcohol and pick one of the two options.
Throughout the game, both Yap and Panganiban stuck with giving truths.
At one point, Panganiban was asked which among her ex-boyfriends still crosses her mind. Panganiban’s known former partners are Carlo Aquino, Derek Ramsay, and John Lloyd Cruz.
“Iyong pinakahuli, si John Lloyd, kasi siya ‘yung pinakahuli. Mas fresh kasi ‘yung memories mo doon. Pero hindi na siya naaalala na, ‘Oh my god,’ gusto mong mamatay. Naalala mo lang na, ‘Ay, kumain ako dito, kasama ko nga noon si Lloydie,’” she said.
Panganiban and Cruz were together for three years until their breakup in 2016. Cruz, who remains on hiatus from showbiz, now has a son with his former co-star Ellen Adarna, who has similarly stepped away from the limelight.
Still on the topic of exes, Panganiban was also asked which among her past boyfriends she considers the “yummiest,” or most sexually attractive.
Initially protesting the question, saying she can no longer appreciate any of them, Panganiban yielded: “Siyempre, kaya naman ako na-attract kay Derek dahil sa katawan niya… Ma-abs, ganyan. Tatlo lang naman kasi sila, at parang so far, siya lang naman ang may abs sa lahat.”
Turning serious, Yap and Panganiban towards the end of the video exchanged realizations about relationships and love. The conversation was prompted by Yap’s confession that she, at one point, got frustrated with Panganiban’s stubborness when it came to a relationship that had started to show cracks.
Yap recalled that Panganiban got an “offensive” and “hurtful” text message from a man, but the actress insisted that she would stay in love with him.
Belatedly, Panganiban realized: “Oo nga, sinabihan niya ako ng ganoon, pero hindi ko man lang tinake against sa kanya. Tinake ko ‘yun na ako ‘yung may problema.”
Visibly cringing at the memory, Panganiban went on: “Grabe, ‘no, ang nagagawa sa ‘yo ng love?
“Kaya dapat na sa right state of mind ka… Kasi may hope na, ‘Hindi, magbabago ‘yan…’ ‘Iyong power of love kaya ‘to.’ Budol ‘yon! Self-love ka na lang maniwala! Self-love na lang ang meron ngayon talaga. Iyong mga hope na ganiyan, ibibigay mo lang ‘yan sa sarili mo!”
Panganiban, 32, was last romantically linked with Aquino, her ex-boyfriend with whom she was paired anew in a movie and a TV series.
Their onscreen reunion, as well as their sweet photos online, fueled hopes among fans that the two would get back together in real life. Those expectations were dashed when Aquino was photographed on an apparent vacation with a different woman.
Panganiban made no secret of getting hurt at the time. She then said, in June, that Aquino “no longer exists” in her life, when asked for her reaction to his apology to their fans.
“Kailangan mo talaga protektahan ‘yung sarili mo, alam mo ngayon kung ano ang deserve mo,” Panganiban said in Yap’s vlog.
For now, Panganiban is focusing on her own happiness — regardless of not having a partner.
“Sobrang grateful ng heart ko. Gusto ko sana maramdaman ito ng ibang tao na mag-isa, na hindi mo kailangan ng ibang tao to be happy. Kabuuan talaga ng isang tao ‘yon.
“Ang simple-simple ng happiness na makukuha mo sa mga bagay-bagay, kung liliitan mo lang ang expectations mo, ‘yung source of happiness mo,” she said.
