If one were to talk pure talent, then it's difficult to argue against betting on Lance Busa to win "Idol Philippines."
Unafraid to show that he can take a tune to wherever he wants, the young singer from Butuan City has been leaving the judges in awe since his audition, when he showcased his smooth, effortless sound with a cover of "What You Won't Do For Love."
His quality rarely dipped on his way to securing his place in the grand finals, though admittedly, there were times in his journey when he feared his style wasn't "accepted," a curious case for a man who early on drew comparisons with Billy Crawford.
But the concern is there and he is clearly struggling to find this fine line between expressing himself --putting his stamp on the covers he does with his vocal liberties-- and mainstream appeal.
It only takes one performance, however, to change the minds of voters, and there's no better stage for Busa, who has already proven that he can shine despite the pressure, to do it in.
