MANILA — They may have portrayed mortal enemies onscreen, but Angel Locsin and Alessandra de Rossi only have love and respect for each other.
This was their clarification on Thursday, as the actresses belied any impression of a clash between them amid the forced shutdown of ABS-CBN and their respective means of protesting the government move.
Locsin, a Kapamilya since 2007, has been a visible figure in the campaign supporting ABS-CBN, taking to the streets her call to restore the network on air and save the livelihood of its employees.
She has urged time and again her fellow celebrities to use their voice to fight for the network’s smaller workers, who now face retrenchment amid a pandemic.
De Rossi, who has starred in several ABS-CBN series throughout her two-decade career, has opted to express her support for the network online, explaining on Wednesday that her decision not to participate in rallies is out of fear of the coronavirus disease.
“Hindi ako takot lumaban,” de Rossi tweeted, “pero takot ako sa nanay ko at sa COVID.”
On Thursday morning, Locsin reiterated that attending demonstrations isn’t the only way to speak out, saying, in part, “Iba ‘yung takot sa COVID, iba ‘yung ayaw lang talaga.”
Addressing speculation of a supposed conflict between them, de Rossi tweeted only hours later: “Please 'wag kami ni [Angel Locsin]. Mahal ko siya at iba respeto ko sa tapang niya.”
“Sa totoo lang, paano ba siya puwede pasalamatan sa mga nagawa n'ya para makatulong sa bansa? Lahat ng sulok, narating niya. Bilib ako, pero hindi ako siya. May respeto rin siya sa akin na takot lumabas,” she wrote, referring to Locsin’s philanthropy and activism.
“Nakikiusap ako sa mga gumagawa ng gulo at headline. No! Mahal ko ‘yan! Kung may gusto akong sabihin sa kanya, itatawag ko na lang. Ba’t magpaparinig? Iba siya, iba ako. Iba laban niya, iba din sa akin.”
Referring to their roles in the 2005 TV series “Darna,” de Rossi added: “Magkakampi si Darna at Valentina sa totoong buhay. I love you Angel ng lahat!”
De Rossi then addressed her followers, urging respect.
“'Wag ako. 'Wag kami. 'Wag ngayon. Hindi ito ang tamang oras para magsisihan at magpagalingan. Kanya kanya ‘to. Respeto,” she said.
Apparently catching wind of de Rossi’s tweets, Locsin took to Instagram Stories to echo her former co-star’s statement about having respect for each other.
“Sukat na ng panahon… Respeto’t pagkakaibigan,” Locsin wrote, tagging de Rossi’s account. “Hindi magagapi ng kasamaan.”
