MANILA — Joshua Garcia, who has been lauded as one of the best actors among his contemporaries, showed his versatility through an acting challenge where he channeled different, memorable characters from film and television.
Garcia was tasked to re-enact scenes from the romance film “One More Chance” as Popoy (John Lloyd Cruz), the drama series “Budoy” as the titular character (Gerald Anderson), and the children’s movie “Sarah: Ang Munting Prinsesa” as the titular royalty (Camille Prats).
It was not clear when Garcia filmed the acting challenge, but its release on ABS-CBN’s Facebook page on Tuesday came amid a controversy involving his onscreen partner and former girlfriend Julia Barretto and Anderson, the star of “Budoy.”
Speculation romantically linking Barretto and Anderson swirled on social media starting Sunday, when the actor’s known girlfriend Bea Alonzo posted a cryptic message on Instagram that hinted at infidelity in her relationship.
Alonzo also happened to be in Garcia’s acting challenge. Her character, Basha, in “One More Chance” was in the same scene Garcia re-enacted as Popoy.
Amid the rumors involving Garcia, Barretto, Alonzo, and Anderson, none of the Star Magic talents has yet to release a statement directly addressing the allegations.
