MANILA - (UPDATE 2) Singer Chris Brown was barred by airport authorities from leaving the country on Wednesday, a day after his concert at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Brown's plane, a Gulfstream G450 aircraft, was supposed to depart at 1 p.m. Wednesday from a private hangar near Terminal 4 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

However, the singer was advised by immigration and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to secure clearance first from the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima confirmed that the DOJ has issued a lookout bulletin against Brown in relation to a complaint over the singer's canceled show at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan last New Year's Eve.

Glicerio Santos IV, chief legal counsel of Iglesia ni Cristo and chief operating officer of Maligaya Development Corp. (MDC)., has requested assistance from the DOJ for the prosecution of an estafa complaint against Brown and a certain John Michael Pio Roda.

MDC manages Ciudad de Victoria, where the Philippine Arena is located.

"MDC produced a New Year's Eve event which was scheduled on 31 December 2014 at the Philippine Arena, featuring Mr. Brown as one of the acts. Mr. Pio Roda's services were obtained by MDC to bring into the country Mr. Brown, and have him perform at the said concert. After making representations that Mr. Brown would perform thereat, and after having fully paid for both their services, Mr. Brown failed to appear and perform at the concert, to the damage and prejudice of MDC," Santos wrote in the letter addressed to De Lima.

"We would appreciate any assistance you can provide to us to protect the interest of MDC, and ultimately, to serve as an example to producers and talents who employ such fraudulent schemes to obtain money from legitimate businesses in the country," he added.

Brown failed to make it to his scheduled performance at the Philippine Arena last New Year's Eve, saying that he lost his passport a few hours before his supposed flight to Manila.

As of writing, Brown is still seeking clearance from authorities. -- with reports from Dexter Ganibe, DZMM and Raoul Esperas
