MANILA, Philippines – Batangas Governor and veteran actress Vilma Santos got emotional as she celebrated her 50 years in the entertainment industry on “ASAP 2012” on Sunday.
Santos, who was greeted by several stars whom she has worked with, admitted she was at a loss for words after the show-stopping performances offered to her during the top-rating variety show.
“Hindi na ho ako makasalita kasi hindi ko alam kung paano kayo lahat papasalamatan. Hindi ho ako tatagal ng 50 years in the busines kung hindi kayo sumuporta sa akin. Maraming, maraming salamat,” she said.
“Para sa lahat po ng nagbigay ng magagandang salita, ‘ASAP’ sa pinagpagurang production number, hindi ko ho ma-express kung gaano kasaya ang pakiramdam ko na for 50 years nandito pa rin ako sa inyong harapan. Maraming, maraming salamat po,” she added.
Before she ended her speech, Santos said she is grateful for spending 50 years with ABS-CBN and she is looking forward to serving her supporters for another 50 years.
During the show, a series of production numbers led by singers Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera and Piolo Pascual relived the golden years of Santos in showbiz.
Santos' co-stars of the upcoming movie “The Healing” also prepared a special production number for the veteran actress.
Meanwhile, television host Luis Manzano also lauded Santos not just as an actress but as a wonderful mother.
“I’ve seen you as an actress, as a politician but I will always love you as my mother. I want everyone to know na from the first time na sinabi mong ‘I love you Lucky,’ until my dying breath, I wouldn’t mind you saying it over and over,” he said.
