MANILA—Hers was one of the names thrown into the hat as a possible replacement for Liza Soberano, who backed out from playing Darna because of a serious finger injury.
But as announced Wednesday, the superheroine part went to Jane De Leon, a relatively unknown actress who is perhaps best known for her supporting role in the hit series "Halik."
And for Nadine Lustre, there are no hard feelings over the decision.
"It's nice na iyong imahe ni Darna, ako iyong nakikita nila," she said of the loud fan clamor to have her portray the iconic komiks hero. "But I mean, in the very beginning naman po, like what I said, I was never expecting and I didn't audition din naman."
Lustre also said that she is really happy for De Leon, whom she has met through their common friends.
According to the planned movie's director, Jerrold Tarog, he and the producers made a conscious decision to go with a "new face," as the idea fits with the kind of Darna they want to show.
He added that casting De Leon was a "unanimous choice."
Lustre was speaking at a press conference held this Thursday for her new movie, "Indak," which she co-stars with Sam Concepcion.
The movie is set to premiere August 7.
