MANILA — The trailer of “Mga Batang Poz,” a series about four young men living with HIV, has gone viral, with viewers lauding the iWant original for humanizing the rising numbers often mentioned in headlines about the condition.
Based on the novel by Segundo Matias, Jr., “Mga Batang Poz” follows the frienship formed among Chuchay (Awra Briguela), Gab (Mark Neumann), Luis (Fino Herrera), and Enzo (Paolo Gumabao), who are brought together by their shared experience of being diagnosed with HIV.
Released last Friday, the trailer has since gone viral, with views across social media totaling nearly two million, as of writing.
Reactions to the first look of “Mga Batang Poz” ranged from surprise to praise, in light of the unfiltered depiction of the realities of HIV-positive individuals.
“This is real. No sugar-coating. We should watch this to open our minds,” viewer Jorgy Gorpido commented on YouTube.
Another viewer, Chcha Mint, said: “I see that iWant is our version of Netflix. I hope to see more pressing issues like this in the future like teenage pregnancy, youth depression, school bullying, etc. Keep it up!”
“Nakaka-proud lang na unti-unting nagiging bukas at malaya ang kamalayan, pag-iisip, mga kwento at mas lalong nagiging creative ang mga Pilipino a pagpo-produce at paggawa ng magagandang video o films na ganito… Kudos sa ABS-CBN for this brave act,” viewer Shine Boyce wrote.
Directed by Chris Martinez and written by Jerry Gracio, “Mga Batang Poz” will start streaming exclusively on iWant on July 26.
