MANILA—The top 8 of "Idol Philippines" were asked to perform some of the country's most streamed songs for the third set of live rounds, which started Saturday.
Dan Ombao was the fifth contestant to sing and he chose to cover a hit from one of the judges, Moira dela Torre —"Kung Di Rin Lang Ikaw" — the singer's collaboration with December Avenue.
Dela Torre was clearly impressed, even after saying that she tends to be extra critical with covers of her own songs.
"Based on your performance tonight, I forgot that this was one of our songs," she said, adding that his ability to put his own stamp on his renditions makes him stand apart from the rest.
Vice Ganda also said that Ombao deserves to be in the grand finals, while Regine Velasquez commended him for never failing to make them feel the message of his performances.
Hosted by Billy Crawford, "Idol Philippines" airs Saturdays after "Home Sweetie Home" and Sundays after "Wansapanataym."
