MANILA - "It was meant to happen," Sunshine Cruz said as she described her daughters' chance meeting with estranged husband Cesar Montano at a restaurant in Pasay City Monday night.
Montano, on his Instagram account, shared a photo of him with daughters Angel, Samantha, and Angeline, whom he has been separated with since Cruz filed rape and child abuse cases against him two years ago, effectively ending their 13-year marriage.
Cruz on Facebook shared that the meeting happened at Resorts World Manila, where she and her family celebrated her upcoming birthday. She added that Montano, referring to him as her "ex-husband," also happened to be in a nearby restaurant.
"I believe that it was meant to happen. Same time and same place pa kaya alam ko si God ang kumilos," Cruz said. "The kids were tensed but excited when they learned and saw their father. Hindi naman ako nagdalawang isip at inutusan ko ang kids na lapitan at halikan ang kanilang dad. It was emotional."
The "Dolce Amore" actress also claimed that she has been vocal about her wish for Montano and her daughters to have a better relationship. "But unfortunately may mga bagay na nangyari at bilang isang ina, gagawin ko ang alam ko ay tama, ang proteksyunan ang mga bata at irespeto ang kagustuhan nila," she said.
Cruz continued: "We as parents need to remember na hindi ginusto ng mga bata na tayo ang maging magulang nila. I know our kids deserve a good life because they are wonderful children."
Cruz, in 2013, sued Montano for rape, saying in her complaint that she was a victim of "physical harm, obscene accusations, and grave defamation" under her "very domineering, philandering" husband. She also accused her the actor of performing lewd acts in front of their daughters.
A year later, Cruz filed an annulment case against Montano. The actress is hopeful that her "freedom" will be granted this year. "I want my 110% freedom then I will be the happiest. Please Lord!" Cruz, in an earlier Facebook post, said.
