The late film icon Dolphy
MANILA, Philippines -- The family of the late film icon Dolphy will hold a simple gathering to commemorate the first anniversary of his death on Wednesday, July 10.
"There is going to be a simple Mass lang and a brunch, that's it. Close family lang... Sa ngayon, pamilya lang muna," Dolphy's long-time partner, actress-singer Zsa Zsa Padilla, told ABS-CBN News on Tuesday.
Born Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Dolphy passed away in July last year after a five-year battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 83.
Padilla, who was Dolphy's partner for 23 years, thanked those who continue to pay respects to the comedian by visiting his grave at The Heritage Park in Taguig City.
"Maraming, maraming salamat sa lahat ng dumadaan at nagdadala ng bulaklak. Kasi paminsan nagpupunta kami doon, may mga bulaklak. 'Di namin alam kung saan nanggagaling, so thank you very much," the 49-year-old singer said.
Dolphy's family, led by his son Eric Quizon and Padilla, earlier mounted a concert tribute for the showbiz veteran in September. Featuring several stars from the three biggest networks locally, the concert was held for the benefit of various charitable organizations.
In April this year, Dolphy was likewise honored with a seven-foot bronze statue made by scultor Jonas Roces, along Roxas Boulevard in Manila.
The late comedian was also recognized posthumously early this year with the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining, the highest honor given by the Culture Center of the Philippines.
