MANILA — Former Kapamilya actress Carmen Soo of Malaysia has joined the call for the renewal of ABS-CBN's franchise on Wednesday, ahead of the House panel voting that will determine the fate of the network.
Soo's video message was among several from international collaborators of ABS-CBN in its past projects, including the Croatia-set "Make It With You."
Soo starred opposite Filipino actor Jericho Rosales in the 2009 hit drama "Kahit Isang Saglit," a co-production of ABS-CBN with Malaysia's Double Vision.
"During my time working with ABS-CBN through our project, everyone in the Philippines was exposed to the beautiful country of Malaysia, and everyone in Malaysia were able to see the beautiful country of the Philippines," she said.
Soo went on to appear in several more ABS-CBN programs, like "It's Showtime" and "Maalaala Mo Kaya."
In her statement, Soo noted that the international reach of ABS-CBN brings a semblance of home to Filipinos based abroad, and courts foreign fans with its offerings.
"ABS-CBN has provided information, education, entertainment, and joy to Filipinos in the Philippines, outside, and not to mention, all the Kapamilya fans all over the world," she said.
ABS-CBN, through its International Distribution arm, has sold over 50,000 hours of content worldwide, with Kapamilya programs airing in some 50 territories globally.
"I am in full support of the appeal to allow ABS-CBN to operate again. I hope that the powers that be will make this happen," Soo said.
In the past week, Soo has also expressed her support for ABS-CBN through social media. She shared an open letter from Star Magic founder Johnny Manahan to Congress, and encouraged her fellow Kapamilyas to "stay strong."
