MANILA – Dani Barretto came to the defense of her mother, Marjorie Barretto, who is currently being attacked on social media for not being with her daughter when she was recently brought to the hospital.

In a lengthy Twitter post, Dani said she did not want to say anything about the matter anymore but she could not stand the fact that her mom is being bashed for the wrong reasons.

Dani explained that she only went to the emergency room of St. Luke’s at the Bonifacio Global City for “proper medications and immediate relief.”

“I’m already 23. If I’m sick and my mom’s not around and it’s not alarming naman, I think I’m old enough to take myself to the ER when I’m not feeling well,” she said.

“And I was texting with my mom the whole time. I was updating her with my test results and whatever was going on. I didn’t need for her to be there physically because it wasn’t anything serious naman,” she added.

Dani said it just so happened that her good friend, actress Bela Padilla, was in the area so she was the one who accompanied her to the hospital.

“I didn’t want her (Marjorie) to go all the way to St. Luke’s Fort from Quezon City during the rush hour for something that I can fix on my own. All of you know traffic was hell yesterday. I don’t think it’s fair that people are bashing her for that,” she said.

If her condition were serious, Dani said Marjorie definitely would have been the first person to know "and she would have been there for me like she always has for the past 23 years of my life."

“So please stop the hate and the nonsense assumptions,” she said.

Dani is Marjorie’s daughter with Kier Legaspi. Marjorie has three other children (Julia, Claudia and Leon) with comedian Dennis Padilla.
