MANILA - Brillante Mendoza, an acclaimed director known for his hyper realist portrayal of social injustice, has revealed his plans for the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Mendoza was offered the chance to direct the president's SONA by Communications Secretary Martin Andanar last week. He agreed, saying that he wants to show to Filipinos the real Duterte.
"Ipapakita lang natin ang natural, ipapakita kung papaano siya makipagusap sa mga tao at kanilang tunay na reaksyon," Mendoza told ABS-CBN News' Marie Lozano. "Kung baga walang embellishment."
"It's not a TV show. SONA is when you communicate directly to the people. I think that's how he wants it. When you communicate you interact and that's what he wants and I want to capture that," he added.
A detailed plan for Dutere's inaugural SONA has yet to be revealed by Andanar.
The former television anchor, however, said that the president has asked Mendoza for suggestions on how to aid local directors in an attempt to boost the country's indie filmmaking scene.
