MANILA – Two brothers who use music to help their family make ends meet are the newest members of Kamp Kawayan on the second season of "The Voice Kids."
Twelve-year-old Emman, and nine-year-old Sandy Tanyo go to beaches in Bohol not to swim but to sing and play for tourists to help with their family’s expenses.
The two are among seven children. Their dad works as a carpenter, while their mom is an ice cream vendor.
Emman and Sandy came to the auditions armed with their instruments: for Sandy, a ukulele; and for Emman, a diudiu, which an improvised guitar made of wood and a cooking pot (kaserola).
They sang a Visayan version of Pink’s “Just Give Me A Reason.” Rock icon Bamboo Manalac turned around after the first two lines of the song.
Coach Lea Salonga congratulated the boys for impressing Manalac, while Sarah Geronimo said: “Hindi ako umikot kasi alam kong si Coach Bamboo ang the best na coach para sa inyo.”
“Parati kong sinasabi, 'yung hinahanap ko sa Kamp Kawayan ay ang kulay.” Manalac said. “Sa umpisa pa lang, nahuli niyo na ako.”
“Isa sa paborito kong performances itong season na ito ‘yung nakita ko kayong dalawa. Parang gumaan 'yung loob ko talaga, “ he added.
The Tanyo brothers join Altair Aguelo, Atascha Mercado, Benedict Inciong, Christian Pasno, Lance Macalinao, Martina Luis, and Romeo Espino in Manalac’s team.
"The Voice Kids", which is hosted by Robi Domingo and Yeng Constantino, airs Saturdays at 6:45 p.m. and Sundays at 7:30 p.m.
