MANILA — Elmer Cordero, the elderly jeepney driver who was arrested along with 5 others earlier this month for staging a protest, has undergone COVID-19 swab testing after being exposed to the disease while in detention.

Cordero was tested last Wednesday, actress and philanthropist Angel Locsin said on Instagram on Friday.

Locsin, who co-founded the celebrity auction Shop & Share, thanked those who supported the project, which helped secure the testing for Cordero and several others.

In early June, Locsin was among the first personalities who called for the release of Cordero's group, now known as PISTON 6, whose demonstration sought relief goods from the government and the resumption of jeepney operations.

On June 18, two of the six who were arrested were announced to have tested positive for COVID-19.

Aside from Cordero's batch, Locsin's Shop & Share has rolled out COVID-19 testing in other vulnerable communities, most recently a group of stranded passengers under the care of missionaries in Albay.
