MANILA -- Former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate Myrtle Sarrosa on Sunday accomplished one of her biggest goals in life.
The 22-year-old actress graduated cum laude from the UP College of Mass Communication with a degree in Broadcast Communication.
Sarrosa wore a big smile as she stood beside the sunflowers planted before the university's most notable emblem, the Oblation.
Just like all UP students, Sarrosa said she worked hard to earn a degree from the country's premiere state university. In fact, she had to work extra harder because she had to juggle work and school.
"I'm really, really happy kasi naging isang journey talaga 'yong pag-aaral ko, and I'm really glad na kahit mahirap siya, napagsabay ko 'yong pag-aaral at pagtatrabaho," she told ABS-CBN News.
The challenge, Sarrosa said, got more difficult when she started writing her thesis. She recalled the days when she would not have enough time to sleep because she had to attend class immediately after taping a teleserye.
But despite the hardships, Sarrosa said she endured everything to acquire a UP diploma, the greatest gift she can give to her parents.
"Sobrang grateful ko rin sa UP kasi they gave an opportunity sa mga students, lalo na sa mga working students na makapag-aral habang nagta-trabaho. And alam ko naman na kaunti lang 'yong nagkaroon ng privilege para makapag-aral kaya pinursige ko talaga na makatapos," she added.
Sarrosa said she wants to inspire other celebrities to "open their minds" and return to the classroom.
"Education is a never-ending thing. Dapat everyday, lagi mo ini-strive na mas mag-improve ka sa sarili mo kasi there's so many things na hindi mo alam na hindi mo pala alam at puwede mo pang mapag-aralan," she said. -- With report from MJ Felipe, ABS-CBN News
