MANILA - It's been a while since John Lloyd Cruz starred in a romantic comedy film, and rumors have been circulating that the actor has gotten tired of doing projects under that genre.
Cruz denied the issue, saying that he always finds joy in making audiences believe in love and happy endings.
"Actually, ang dami kong naririnig na ganyan, but it's a big misconception. Kasi I never stopped wanting to do rom-coms," he told ABS-CBNnews.com and other entertainment press on the set of "Maalaala Mo Kaya" in Bataan on Thursday.
"Sino ang magsasawang ma-in love, hindi ba?" he added. "Sino ang magsasawang magbigay ng kilig sa mga tao? Hindi naman nawala 'yon."
While rom-coms will always have a place in his heart, Cruz said he also needs to try new roles and accept other challenges so he will grow as an actor.
"Siyempre, parang to survive you can't keep doing the same thing. It's part of survival," he said.
Meanwhile, Cruz revealed that there are plans for a movie starring him and his long-time on-screen partner, Bea Alonzo.
"Mayroon kaming gustong gawin ni Tita Malou (Santos). Mayroon silang istorya ni Ma'am Charo (Santos-Concio) at gusto nila ako ang gumawa. Kung matutuloy 'yon at kung matutuloy according to plan ang naka-lineup, I'm going to do a movie with Bea this year," he said.
"Pagkatapos noon, kung matutuloy ang plano ay babalik ako, magti-TV ako para sa planong sinasabi ko," added Cruz, who will also do an "MMK" episode with Alonzo.
Cruz is currently busy taping scenes for his "MMK" comeback episode, which will be aired on June 27 after "The Voice Kids."
The episode is also her reunion project with his "Tabing Ilog" leading lady, Kaye Abad.
Joining Cruz and Abad in the "MMK" episode this Saturday are Harvey Bautista, Marlann Flores, Nico Antonio, Jong Cuenco, Sonjia Calit and Maila Gumila.
After this episode with Abad, Cruz is set to do three more for "MMK."
