MANILA — "Clarita," the horror movie starring Jodi Santa Maria as the possessed titular character, appears to have local audiences in its clutches as its box-office take crossed a milestone on Friday.

The Black Sheep production earned P50 million as of June 21, or 10 days since its nationwide release.

Inspired by a true event, "Clarita" follows the possession of Clarita Villanueva, said to be the first-ever recorded such case in the country in the 1950s.

The box-office surge of the Derick Cabrido film coincides with word-of-mouth praise for "Clarita," as well as positive reviews specifically for the performance of Santa Maria.
