MANILA — Until his final days, Eddie Garcia had remained full of energy and closely involved in his work, as seen in behind-the-scenes footage of "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano," which saw his last television appearance in a starring role.
The behind-the-scenes look was part of a video tribute released Friday by Coco Martin, who portrays the lead character Cardo and who also directs the popular TV series.
Garcia was part of " Ang Probinsyano" between 2016 and 2019 as Cardo's nemesis Don Emilio, who later on took the guise of Señor Gustavo.
While filming a climactic scene which saw an exchange of bullets between Gustavo and Cardo, Garcia, then 89, can be seen in the footage closely collaborating with Martin and walking around the set, with escorts to ensure his safety.
The latter part of the video tribute shows snippets of a party gathering cast members of "Ang Probinsyano," with an energetic Garcia dancing with his co-stars.
Garcia, who died aged 90, had said in a 2012 interview that he had no plans of retiring from acting.
In 2019, he marked his 70th anniversary in showbiz, which was ushered in by three movies the previous year, on top of his regular role in "Ang Probinsyano."
