MANILA -- Veteran actor Eddie Garcia was one of the recipients of a special award at the 35th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies held earlier this month.
The 90-year-old actor was one of those given the "Natatanging Bituin ng Siglo" for his contributions to the local movie industry.
Other awardees were Nora Aunor, Tirso Cruz III, Christopher de Leon, Joseph Estrada, Eddie Garcia, Anita Linda, Niño Muhlach, Ramon Revilla, Sr., Susan Roces, Gloria Romero, Philip Salvador and Vilma Santos.
Garcia's appearance at the awards night came days before he sustained a severe cervical fracture after tripping and falling while shooting a scene for a GMA 7 TV series last June 8.
The injury led to his “comatose state with minimal spontaneous respiration,” an earlier medical update said.
