MANILA — A former finalist on “The Voice Teens” crossed over to another ABS-CBN singing competition on Monday, wowing judges and becoming the new “Tawag ng Tanghalan” defending champion.
Emarjhun de Guzman, a semifinalist from Bamboo’s team in the 2017 edition of “The Voice Teens,” delighted the audience of “It’s Showtime” with an energetic rendition of “Superstition.”
His performance earned raves from the judges, particularly Karylle and Yeng Constantino, with the latter describing de Guzman’s stage presence as “intoxicating.”
“Na-high ako sa performance mo, totoo. Ibang klase ‘yung naramdaman ko. Meron kang love, passion doon sa ginagawa mo na talagang nag-ooze. Meron kang landi! Makati! There’s just something about you, sobra akong nalasing sa performance mo,” she told de Guzman.
As the daily winner, de Guzman went on to challenge defending champion Rox Santos. With a stirring take on “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” the fresh graduate from Bulacan stole the “golden mikropono” to become the new titlist.
Should De Guzman achieve a five-time winning streak as the new defending champion, he will become a semifinalist for the ongoing quarter.
