MANILA – The Filipino boy love (BL) series “Gameboys” is making waves in the online world.

In just three weeks, the show has already reached over 1.5 million views on YouTube, has been seen 1.2 million times on TikTok, and has earned its own following both in the Philippines and abroad.

“’Gameboys’ is ultimately about love overcoming all boundaries, even physical ones set by our new reality,” said executive producer Jun Robles Lana in a statement.

“It is about two people who find each other at a time when they can only connect with one another virtually. I think that is what makes it so resonant with audiences around the world. We want to believe that you can still find love and companionship even in the middle of a pandemic,” he added.

“Gameboys” was shot entirely during the coronavirus pandemic while everyone is under a community quarantine.

Starring Kokoy de Santos and Elijah Canlas, the show is the first Filipino series to ride the wave of successful Asian BLs.

Ivan Payawal, the director of the show, admitted being overwhelmed to see that this series is getting so much international love too.

“I knew we had a show we can all be proud of, but it’s just overwhelming to see fans from around the world commenting and posting about it – a lot of them even creating reaction videos to chronicle how much they loved our episodes,” he said.

“Gameboys” was produced by Ideafirst, the company behind the hits “Die Beautiful,” “Ang Dalawang Mrs Reyes” and “Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi.”
