Maja Salvador and Angel Locsin in a scene from 'The Legal Wife'. ABS-CBN/Video grab
MANILA - "The Legal Wife," the controversial series starring Angel Locsin and Maja Salvador as the wife and the mistress, respectively, concluded on a high note last Friday as it posted its highest-ever rating throughout its four-month run.
The final episode, dubbed "The End of An Affair," drew a nationwide rating of 36.2%, according Kantar Media. The number is more than quadruple the viewership of its rival show aired on GMA-7, "Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real," which only got 8.8% on the same day.
The ratings of "The Legal Wife" leading up to its finale week were also a significant improvement over its average audience share since its premiere.
Its pilot episode on January 27 got 21% in national TV ratings. In April, the series averaged 23.5%. For the month of May, its average audience share increased to 26%.
The viewership of "The Legal Wife" is also relatively high for a program that airs at 9:15 p.m., with the nationwide rating of its final episode setting a new record in the time slot, according to producer Star Creatives.
"Considering na late time slot kami... Lahat naman 'yan dahil sa mga viewers, kaya maraming, maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat," Locsin said during a press conference held Monday for "Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp 3," where she will be featured as an acting coach.
"Sana po may natutunan kayong aral, at saka sana naging inspirasyon po kami sa inyo," Locsin added.
'Hanggang doon na lang'
The conclusion of "The Legal Wife" saw Adrian (Jericho Rosales) and Monica (Locsin) deciding to part ways, after years of a tumultuous relationship following his affair with her best friend, Nicole (Salvador).
Aside from Monica and Adrian's relationship, a highlight of the series were the confrontations between Monica and Nicole, several of which turned physical.
In the end, an emotional Nicole asked for Monica's forgiveness after the latter saved her child with Adrian from getting suffocated inside locked car.
"I think kung paano tinapos ng ABS-CBN 'yung 'The Legal Wife,' iyon talaga 'yung maganda para sa show," Locsin asid. "Pangit naman 'yung i-extend namin pero wala nang kwento, 'di ba? Hanggang doon na lang talaga."
Asked if she is inclined to take on more projects similar to the "The Legal Wife," considering its success, Locsin said: "Ako kasi, naniniwala ako na gusto ng tao marinig ang mga totoong nangyayari."
"As long as sincere ka sa pag-po-portray mo, sa paghahatid ng kwento, mamahalin ng tao 'yung show mo," she said.
