MANILA – The first contestant on the Sunday episode of “The Voice Kids” quickly turned the chairs of coaches Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo Manalac and Lea Salonga with her rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop.”
Kyle Berdino of Cagayan de Oro City said she couldn’t help but feel nervous while she was performing as she had difficulty in the higher notes.
But Manalac assured her that they can work on this if she picks him as coach.
“Vocally nahirapan ka nung higher sections pero that’s something we can work on. Kinakabahan ka pero 'yung galaw mo, 'yung swag mo [ang galing],” Manalac said.
Salonga, for her part, noted how Berdino owned the stage despite being nervous.
“Nung isa-isa na kaming umiikot, parang mas tumatapang ka pa na parang this is my house, this is my room, this is my stage,” she said.
But even before Geronimo could comment on her performance, Berdino admitted that she is a fan of the 25-year-old singer-actress.
“Inspirasyon ko po kasi talaga kumanta si Ate Sarah. Kaya po pinipigilan ko po 'yung kaba ko kasi sabi ni Ate Sarah, face your fears daw po,” she said.
Responding to the 13-year-old’s statement, Geronimo said, “Kyle, I believe that we are meant to be together. I love to dance, you love to dance too. Iyan ang aim natin, maging total performer talaga.”
When Salonga asked who she would choose as a coach, Berdino picked Geronimo without second thoughts.
