MANILA - Both Lea Salonga and Sarah Geronimo had nothing but praise for a 13-year-old kid from South Cotabato, who wowed in the blind auditions of "The Voice Kids" which aired Saturday.

Renzwil "Kobe" Viray sang a soulful cover of Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life," which impressed the 2 coaches enough to face the young singer.

"When someone listens to your voice, parang instantly that person will have a good day. It brightens up your day habang pinapakinggan 'yung boses. Amazing voice, amazing talent, at kailangan ko ng katulad mo sa team ko," Geronimo said.

To which Salonga echoed: "Your ear is not a problem and your style is not a problem. Pero ang nangunguna talaga sa iyo, after everything, the technical stuff, 'yung puso mo nangunguna. 'Yun ang nagugustuhan ko. Magaling kang bata ka."

Salonga then asked about Viray's rituals in practicing his voice. Viray said that he often sings while lying down on his bed, similar to the practice of acclaimed singer Regine Velasquez.

The broadway star then asked him to demonstrate his method, before joining him onstage. In an unexpected moment in the show, all three judges -- Geronimo, Salonga, and Bamboo Manalac -- laid flat on their backs, along with Viray, and sang.

"Napaka-interesting ng technique na ginawa mo. Ngayon ko lang nakita yan. Advice ko lang is mukhang sa genre na pinili mo, kailangan mas cooler, smoother but great job," Manalac said afterwards.

Salonga, in one last attempt to lure Viray to her team, quipped that Geronimo's beauty might prove to be a distraction to him.

"Me, I'm 43. I'm already old. So I'm going to be less distracting," she said. "And that genre that you sang. I sing a lot of that. Nakasanayan ko na rin na kumanta ng mga standards kasi nga ang tanda ko na eh."

Viray went on to pick Salonga, one of the three kids to do so. Earlier in the episode, both Eufritz Santos and Lorenzo Cinco also decided that they will benefit more under the tutelage of Salonga.

"The Voice Kids," which is hosted by Luis Manzano and Alex Gonzaga, airs Saturdays at 6:45 p.m. and on Sundays at 7:30 p.m.
