MANILA -- "Ang Probinsyano" star Coco Martin has confirmed that he will be teaming up with erstwhile Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) competitor, screen veteran Vic Sotto, for a movie which they plan to submit as an entry to this year's edition of the film fest.

Martin, 36, spoke on the topic on the sidelines of the recent Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards, where he received the FPJ Memorial Award.

"Actually, nakapag-usap na kami," he said, referring to Sotto, as quoted in a report by PEP. "Excited? Sobra, kasi matagal ko nang pangarap na magkatrabaho kami ni Bossing. Pinalad naman na pinagbigyan niya ako, sana magdire-diretso."

The Kapamilya star's team-up with the Kapuso comedian will likely pit him against Vice Ganda, his long-time friend and former co-star, whose top-grossing films have become a staple in the annual MMFF.

Notably, Martin and Vice Ganda starred in 2016 comedy "The Super Parental Guardians," which was submitted as an entry to the MMFF but ultimately did not make the cut amid a shakeup in the organizing committee's criteria.

In 2017, both joined the MMFF, but with separate films. Vice Ganda led the box office race with "Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad," now said to be the highest grossing Filipino film of all time, while Martin made his directorial debut with "Ang Panday," in which he also starred.

Sotto, likewise, has been a regular presence in the film festival, with movies that would usually go neck-and-neck with Vice Ganda's in terms of box office rankings.

"Actually, 'di namin iniintindi 'yun," Martin said of the supposed brewing rivalry between him and Vice Ganda. "Ang layunin namin kasi mapaligaya namin ang mga manonood. At saka siyempre, ako naman, sabi ko nga, 'di kami naglalaban-laban, nagtutulungan kami para bigyan ng buhay at maging mas masigla ang Metro Manila Film Fest kapag Pasko."

Prior to Martin's confirmation, Vice Ganda was already asked for his take on what was then rumors of the "Probinsyano" star's team up with Sotto.

"I'm fully aware of that," Vice Ganda said at the time. "Wala namang taong hindi mahigpit ang labanan, kasi lahat ng tao nagtatrabaho nang husto, para makapagbigay ng magandang materyal sa mga taong manonood."
