MANILA — Neophyte model and aspiring boxer Jimuel Pacquiao came to the defense of his girlfriend, actress Heaven Peralejo, against “bashers” who insinuate that the relationship is motivated by money.
Jimuel, a son of boxing champion and lawmaker Manny Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee, was made to address critics of Peralajo on Tuesday, during a press conference launching him as a model of clothing brand BNY.
“Actually, hindi naman po maiiwasan ang mga bashers,” he said. “It’s normal po na we can’t please everybody. Ang masasabi ko lang po is, sa mga nagba-bash, they don’t really know who she is and what she is like. For me, it’s okay, they don’t really know who Heaven is.”
Heaven rose to popularity in 2016 as one of the teen housemates of the ABS-CBN reality show “Pinoy Big Brother.” She remains active in showbiz, and happens to also be a model of BNY — one of the reasons Jimuel signed up with the brand, he admitted.
“Honestly, that’s one of the reasons. Maganda rin naman po ‘yung offer. Hindi lang po iyon ‘yung reason kung bakit gusto ko po maging part,” he said.
Jimuel and Heaven made headlines in March when they confirmed their relationship in a joint interview on “TV Patrol.”
Asked how he courted Heaven, Jimuel said: “Niligawan ko po ‘yung both sides ng family niya, nakilala ko po. Actually, her whole family. Pinakita ko po na [I have] good intentions.”
In fact, valuing their respective family, according to Jimuel, is something he and his girlfriend have in common. He identified this as one of things he “loves most” about Heaven, when asked.
“She’s a family type of person, just like me, na love na love po namin ang family namin,” he said.
A family member also happened to be seated beside Jimuel during the interview — his mother Jinkee. Taking her turn to answer questions, Jinkee was asked whether she approves of Heaven for her son.
Her response: “Okay naman, mabait namang bata si Heaven. Nakakasama ko naman siya.”
